At the Josie Porter Farm...

Chicken Shares

Pasture-Raised Poultry: Chicken Share Sign-Up Form! And call them to let them know you are interested if you haven't purchased a chicken share yet!

For the 2010 season, Josie Porter Farm has partnered with Ledamete Grass Farm (pronounced let 'em eat!) to bring you pasture raised chicken. Animals at Ledamete Grass Farm, in Schnecksville, Pa, are raised on pasture, in the sunshine and fresh air. April and Rob Fix are passionate about what they do, and we feel very fortunate to be able to offer this service to our CSA community.

Similar to the way our veggie CSA works, Rob and April are looking to start signing people up now, so they have an idea of how many birds to raise. Your committment and down payment will help them with their initial costs, just in the way your veggie CSA down payment helps us get our seeds and annual supplies. Share details: Frozen chicken will be delivered monthly to the Josie Porter Farm from June through November for pick-up during your regular veggie share day. Whole and split chicken are available. Birds will weigh between 4-5 pounds. There are a variety of share size options available, anywhere from 1 to 5 chickens a month. Ledamete farm will also be providing recipes and news from the farm on a regular basis to those who purchase a "chicken share".

If you are at all interested, please take a moment to read over Ledamete Grass Farm's brochure and sign up sheet (see below attachments).  Their 2 page brochure does a wonderful job of describing their farming practices, as well as the benefits of grass-fed.  The sign-ups will be handled directly by them.  Please mail them your form and payments, and phone or e-mail any questions you may have to Ledamete Farm directly.  On another related note, if you haven't yet seen the movie Food, Inc, we highly recommend that you do.  The movie will have you seeking out local farms who practice sustainable methods based on nature's design, as opposed to the confinement based, mechanized and fuel intensive factory farm system.  Get inspired and put your beliefs into action!
